Don hiring

Thanks to those who attended our Central Don Hiring info sessions to learn about all 10 residences who hire residence dons and other positions like academic dons and community advisors. If you missed them, there is still the opportunity to learn more about specific residences at their in-house presentations throughout January. St. George: Donships

Residence dons act as a resource and are responsible for community development, social/educational programming, crisis intervention, referrals, policy enforcement and the overall well-being of the residents.

The term for the 2020-21 Residence Donships is from August to April.

 

Chestnut Residence

22 residence don positions

Open to full-time undergraduate students who have completed at least 2 years of study and full-time graduate students. All students must have a minimum 1.7 CGPA

Compensation includes a private room with ensuite washroom and full meal plan

Definitions

Chestnut Residence don

The residence don’s purpose is to develop and maintain an environment that contributes positively to learning and personal growth for the floor community they are entrusted with, the residence on team, and for the Chestnut Residence community as a whole. Residence dons engage in building-wide and floor-wide programming throughout the academic year with responsibilities in both the planning and implementation stages. As a positive role model and leader, the residence don will support students’ well-being by assisting them with academic, social, personal, and interpersonal concerns. Residence dons are expected to embody roles such as facilitator, educator and administrator. 

Graduate House residence advisors

Residence advisors (RA) at Graduate House build community within the residence, uphold Graduate House core values and community standards, provide residents with support and referrals in the event of academic and personal difficulties, respond to emergencies and critical incidents, function as mediators in the event of conflicts between suitemates, undertake programming initiatives geared towards graduate students, and help ensure the safety and security of the building and our residents.

Innis College residence don

Residence dons are broadly responsible for community building, student support, maintaining community standards, fostering personal development, and implementing educational activities and events for residents.

Loretto College residence don

Residence dons act as senior role models in the Loretto community. Loretto dons work as a team, and serve as resources and are responsible for community development, social/educational programming, crisis intervention, referrals, policy enforcement and the overall well-being of the residents in their care.

New College residence don

Residence dons are regarded as junior fellows and are charged with stewarding one of 20 smaller communities of approximately 40-50 students across three residence buildings at New College. Recognized as senior student leaders, residence dons facilitate the delivery of the residence curriculum, advise their house councils, serve as paraprofessional counselling support on issues of transition and wellbeing, and engage in crisis intervention and policy enforcement by participating in a rotating on-call schedule.

St. Michael's College residence don

The dons at St. Michael’s College are responsible for creating a welcoming, respectful and supportive residence environment where students are able to succeed both academically and personally. Dons play a variety of roles including: mentor, role model, mediator, authority figure, organizer, active listener and resource person. Among other things, dons are responsible for orienting new students to the university, communicating and enforcing the rules of residence, maintaining reasonable levels of conduct, and creating opportunities for students to meet and interact with their peers.

St. Michael’s expects its dons to be people of good character, sound judgment, leadership and integrity. As ambassadors of the College, dons are also expected to have an understanding and willingness to support the mission and values of St. Michael’s, as a Catholic college federated with the University of Toronto.

Trinity College community advisor

The role of the community advisors (CAs) is to build, promote, and maintain safe, supportive, and inclusive residence communities through formal and informal programs, events, and activities. CAs help to encourage personal and academic growth and development of students and support their transition to university and residence life. CAs plan and facilitate programs based on the needs of their students, and also work collaboratively as a team to plan residence-wide programs and events for all residence students.

Trinity College academic don

Trinity College appoints academic dons in a variety of disciplines. Through formal and informal activities, academic dons provide support for undergraduates in their academic disciplines and encourage the overall academic and personal development of students. Academic dons live in residence at Trinity and combine student life responsibilities with academic responsibilities.

University College residence don

Residence dons act as a resource and are responsible for community development, social/educational programming, crisis intervention, referrals, policy enforcement and the overall well-being of the residents.

University College community coordinator

Also known as CoCos, community coordinators are expected to engage actively in forming and developing a commuter student community around the Commuter Student Centre (CSC), to help assess commuter student needs and to develop programs to meet them.

University College living learning community (LLC) don

University College offers four distinct living learning communities (LLC) within residence houses. Each LLC connects students with similar interests and/or academic pursuits. Students in an LLC will experience directed programming facilitated by Residence Dons and other students in the community. Applicants can indicate their interest in one (or more) of the following LLCs: health and wellness, global perspectives, arts and culture, and life science.

University College programming don

Program dons build upon the residence don responsibilities to be leaders in developing residence-wide programming to build a cohesive residence community connecting students across all residence buildings and houses.

Victoria College residence don

Residence dons act as a resource and are responsible for community development, social/educational programming, crisis intervention, referrals, policy enforcement and the overall well-being of the residents.

Victoria College senior residence don

Senior residence dons act as a resource and are responsible for community development, social/educational programming, crisis intervention, referrals, policy enforcement and the overall well-being of the residents. Additionally, Senior residence dons act as an advisor and elevated point of leadership for one of four residence teams.

Woodsworth residence don

Residence dons are responsible for building community, managing conflict, and developing programming to support undergraduate students at Woodsworth Residence. They work closely with the assistant dean, residence life (ADRL) to support the overall wellbeing of residents and uphold community values.

UTM residence dons

Residence dons act as a resource and are responsible for community development, social/educational programming, crisis intervention, referrals, policy enforcement and the overall well-being of the residents.
