She's Malcolm X!

Feb 2, 4:00pm - Feb 2, 6:00pm

This event is a collaborative effort, born of a diverse range of voices and situated at the crossroads of gender, race, faith and activism. She’s Malcom X, will shine a spotlight on the often ignored history of Black Muslim women and their contributions to social change.

We seek to recognize and acknowledge the teachings, knowledge and experience of the many Black Muslim women who played a critical role in shaping the multi-faceted life of Malcolm X. We ask about the ways in which Black Muslim women are silenced and their excellence measured only in relation to the success of male figures.

How does anti-Black racism work to further marginalize the stories of these women? Using a critical lens to understand the important histories of Black Muslim women, we will explore current realities and future possibilities for Black advocacy and social justice.

More details, including a full speaker list, coming soon.

Write Outside Your House

Write Outside Your House

Feb 22, 12:00am - Feb 22, 11:45pm

A collaboration between the Hart House Literary & Library and Farm Committees, “Write Outside Your House ” encourages folks to explore nature spots around Toronto through writing. We will post writing locations across the GTA every two weeks, starting January 25, to inspire your creative process and bring you in touch with nature. Don’t know what to write about? We will also post prompts for every location.

Feb 25, 1:00pm - Feb 25, 2:00pm

Get Crafty is a free virtual space that’s all about making stuff, trying new things, and getting creative with the things you have on hand at home. We’ll lead you through hands-on activities in a fun and friendly atmosphere so that you’ll be making crafts in no time, no matter what your skill level or experience. Take a break, make yourself a cup of tea, grab a pen and let’s get to playing, making, and being creative together.

No special tools or techniques required, just a bit of curiosity, creativity and your presence. All welcome!

All sessions will be held on Instagram Live, and available forever on our IGTV channel @harthousegetcrafty.

Please see below for schedule and materials you will need for each craft workshop.
