We provide a wide range of medical services for U of T students. These services include routine health care services, such as sexual and reproductive health counselling, allergy care, nutrition consultation, and support with many other health concerns. Most of our services are covered by your Canadian provincial health plans or university health insurance plan (UHIP), and you do not pay out of pocket. However, some services at Health & Wellness are not covered by health plans, and have associated fees.
We prioritize your well-being by matching you with your own family doctor so they can provide ongoing care to you over the course of your academic career at the University of Toronto. This relationship ensures a continuity of care that has been shown to lead to better health outcomes. A team of nurses, dietitians and administrative professionals will work together with your doctor to meet your needs through clinical appointments, effective referrals to specialists and connections to campus and community resources.
We want you to feel safe, supported and confident that you can come to us with your medical concerns. Our team will meet you where you are and support the decisions you make about your health.
Medical Services
We provide any service that you would receive at a family doctor’s office. At our clinic, these services can involve a doctor or a nurse, or a consultation with one of the on-staff dietitians. There are many ways the medical clinic can help address routine medical concerns, including common aches and pains, injury care, colds and fevers, and medication management.
Periodic Health Visit
A health check-up, more formally known as Periodic Health Visit, replaces the annual physical examination. The visit is intended for patients who do not have particular health concerns. It includes a review of your health history, lifestyle and risk factors, and a limited physical exam.
Immunization Services
We offer free vaccinations for diphtheria, polio, tetanus, mumps, measles and rubella. Other immunizations are available for a fee.
Allergy Care
We can administer your allergy shots. Bring your prescribed allergy serum and be prepared to stay in the clinic for 20 to 30 minutes afterwards as a safety precaution.
Sexual and Reproductive Health Counselling and Education
The physicians and nurses at the Health & Wellness Centre can provide counselling and information on the various forms of birth control, and can help you choose the method that is right for you.
Gender-Affirming Care Services
Family medicine physicians at Health & Wellness provide gender-affirming medical care through assessment, advice and treatment regarding medical transition with hormone therapy. This includes both new assessments and ongoing care.
Food/Nutrition Consultation & Education
If you and your health care providers decide that a consultation with our dietitians would be helpful, they can provide the information and support you need to eat well and stay healthy.
Harm Reduction
Harm reduction is an evidence-based approach that aims to reduce the negative impacts of risky health behaviours. At UTSG’s Health & Wellness Centre, we strive to provide students with the appropriate resources and supports to empower them to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.
Mental Health Care
If you would like to talk to someone about your mental health, your family doctor at Health & Wellness can support you in many ways. They can conduct assessments and prescribe medications, connect you with resources and provide referrals to mental health professionals, including psychiatrists.
Same-Day Medical Clinic
If you have an urgent physical health concern, you can make an appointment in the Same-Day Medical Clinic. The clinic offers same-day appointments every weekday afternoon.
How to Make an Appointment
You can call the medical clinic during hours of operation to schedule an appointment.
If you are a registered client at Health & Wellness and matched with a family doctor, you can request an appointment with the medical clinic online through your Medeo account, where you will also receive confirmation of booking.
Appointments are usually booked within 1-2 weeks for most doctors. However, we prioritize some appointments based on urgency, rather than offering all appointments on a first come first served basis. When you call to book an appointment, reception may ask the reason for your visit, so that we can prioritize you if there is an urgent issue.
If you have urgent concerns, such as fever, cough, ear & eye concerns, injury or pain, you can make an appointment with the same-day medical clinic. The clinic offers a limited number of same-day appointments every weekday afternoon. Appointments fill up quickly, so be sure to call early in the morning at 416-978-8030 ext. 2.
Please note, the same-day clinic is not set up to provide non-urgent medical services, such as forms completion, release of medical records, and periodic health visits. You can book an appointment with your family doctor at Health & Wellness to receive these and other services.
