A health check-up, more formally known as Periodic Health Visit (PHV), replaces the annual physical examination.
The visit is intended for patients who do not have particular health concerns. It includes a review of your health history, lifestyle and risk factors, and a limited physical exam.
Longer than a typical medical appointment, a periodic health visit offers an opportunity to connect with your doctor and identify your health care goals together. The appointment takes a holistic approach to your health which allows you to talk to your doctor about what matters most to you and what you would like to address.
The periodic health visit is insured by OHIP once per patient per 12-month period. If a physician determines a complete history and physical examination is necessary (for a patient with chronic illness and/or health issues, for example) the physician will request a full physical exam, which OHIP will insure (Source: Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-term Care).
