Okay, so maybe you want to explore the campus, learn about the resources available to you at U of T, and meet some new friends, but you’re unsure if Orientation is for you. If this sounds like you, you may want to consider participating in My First Six Weeks!

My First Six Weeks has specially curated sessions that will allow you to develop your academic skills, explore new understandings about leadership, be mindful of your health (both mental and physical), and explore programs and services that will help you succeed at U of T. All the while, you will be meeting friends in the workshops, through the community Facebook group and at weekly coffee drop-in sessions.

Overview

My First Six Weeks runs from September 6 to October 12 and is designed to help ensure that your transition to U of T is a smooth one.

Each week has a theme and features engaging workshops and activities that reflect the questions you may be asking or the resources you may be seeking during those weeks.

 

Week 1: Discovering Your New Campus

Get things started at the My First Six Weeks Welcome Session and explore the campus with tours of spaces on campus where you can eat, study and be active.

Week 2: Gaining the Tools for Your Success

Start your first full week of class off strong by learning how to take notes like a pro, where to find on-campus work, and where you can access academic success resources.

Week 3: Engaging in Your Community

U of T students are renowned for their active participation on their campus and in their local and global communities – this week we’ll explore how you can get involved.

Week 4: Taking Care of Yourself

After a couple of weeks of class, you’ve likely got the hang of it, but maybe the work is starting to pile up a little – time to explore some strategies for time management and self-care.

Week 5: Setting Goals for Yourself

Time flies and your first term is almost halfway over, so let’s come together to start setting some realistic goals for the rest of the year.

Week 6: Preparing Yourself for Midterms & Beyond

The final week will help prepare you for midterm exams and all the weeks that follow, and is when we will all come together one last time to reflect and celebrate!

 

If you attend at least one featured workshop per week, your participation in My First Six Weeks will be recorded on your Co-Curricular Record.

In addition to the workshops and activities associated with each week, My First Six Weeks will keep you connected through weekly emails and a community Facebook group. There will also be weekly coffee drop-in sessions so that you can connect with friends throughout the program.

Eligibility

My First Six Weeks is open to all new undergraduate students on the St. George campus. However, as space in the program is limited, priority in registration will be given to students who are not registered for another Orientation program.

The Blueprint Program

If you are seeking a less-structured transition program that you can complete at your own pace, whether it be six weeks or a couple of years, you may be interested in the Blueprint program.

Blueprint provides you with a weekly email, from which you choose the eight workshops and the involvement activity that you feel will help you learn and develop the skills on which you will build your own experience at U of T.
