1st year residence guarantee

Due to heavy snowfall, the University of Toronto is closed for Jan. 15, 2026. All campus activities have been cancelled. Visit the campus status page for more information. 

The first year residence guarantee application will now open on Friday, January 16, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. ET. 

A status update will be posted online by 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 16 if there are any changes. 

2026-2027

Residence is guaranteed for all new full-time students entering their first year of a postsecondary program for the first time, provided that they have indicated their interest in residence by completing the StarRez Portal application by March 31, and receive and accept an offer of admission by June 1.

If you missed the March 31 deadline, you can still apply to be on the wait list.

Students must respond to all deadlines and meet all deposit requirements in order to maintain their eligibility. No exceptions can be made.

Note: An offer of admission to U of T is not required to apply for residence by March 31. You will not be obligated to attend U of T, live in residence, or pay a deposit if you apply by the March 31 deadline. Deposits will only be required if you receive and accept a residence offer in May through August.
