Learn life-saving skills with LivingWorks START. START is a 90-minute, self-paced online training that helps learners develop skills to recognize when someone may be thinking of suicide and steps to connect them to further help. START is an evidence-based, foundational training program that requires no pre-requisites or prior experience in suicide prevention.
Note: Free START licenses are not available at this time. If you are interested in free suicide prevention training, register for an upcoming safeTALK session.

Program Eligibility
START is available to U of T St. George students through central offerings (limited spots) at no cost. Coordinators, staff and faculty can also request START training for U of T St. George student leaders and groups, staff and faculty members at a very low cost.

How The Program Works
Through START online training, participants will be able to explore key teachings including a powerful four-step model to keep someone safe from suicide. Participants will hear from others who have had experience with suicide, and practice new helping skills through text messaging, video simulations and interactive practice scenarios.
Safety for participants is a priority. START includes access to crisis resources and a virtual “Hope Coach” that provides encouragement and opportunities for deeper learning and reflection.
Participants registered in central and by-request offerings, will be sent instructions on how to access the online training including deadlines to complete. Those who register for monthly central offerings will receive an email at the end of the month with instructions on how to create an account and access the training. Once your account is created, you have 60 days to complete the training and access resources on the LivingWorks website.
All learners will receive a certificate upon completion and post-training summary handout.
