COVID-19: Housing and residence updates

July 15, 2021: Update on the U of T first-year residence guarantee

The health and safety of the U of T community is our top priority. The University is looking toward fall 2021 with optimism, and we are hopeful that public health conditions will allow us to house all eligible first-year students. With the requirement to be vaccinated to live in residence, we are increasing the total number of spaces available in residences and, where appropriate, utilizing double rooms.

Given the demand for residence spaces for fall 2021, the University will consider offsite accommodations. Students who have been offered a residence guarantee will be housed either in on-campus accommodation or in additional U of T student accommodation at the Chelsea Hotel, which is located close to the Chestnut Residence. These accommodations will be on dedicated floors and separate from other guests. Whether in our on-campus residence or at the Chelsea, we will provide a fulsome residence life experience. All U of T residence requirements will still be in place, including the vaccination requirement. Provincial health regulations continue to guide our work and will determine the total number of spaces in residences.

Please be assured that we will continue to update students on residence accommodations as information becomes available. For more information, please visit the COVID-19 Information for University of Toronto Students website.

May 22, 2020: COVID-19 update for 2020-21 residence applicants

We are planning to have students in residence this fall and look forward to welcoming you when you arrive. We know that for some students, residence is an important part of the university experience, and we want it to be rewarding.

Your health and safety is our top priority. Planning is underway to determine the appropriate physical distancing measures in residence following the guidance of our local public health officials. As we prepare for your arrival, we are also focused on delivering a residence experience to help you transition to university. We know you have lots of questions about residence and we will keep you updated when we have new information.

Our process for accepting residence this year is designed to help you maintain your residence space even if you are not able to arrive on campus in September. More details will be provided on the StarRez portal when available.

Visit the Office of the Vice Provost, Students website to find additional COVID-19 information for U of T students.
