Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is the support provided to a person who may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health crisis. Learn how to recognize signs that a person may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health crisis and have conversations to encourage them to reach out to supports.
This mental health training is facilitated by GuardMe, which is an organization external to Health & Wellness and U of T.
Workshop Details
The course, certified by the Mental Health Commission of Canada, consists of a 2-hour online self-directed learning module and a full day of in-person learning.
Self-Directed Online Learning, 2 hours
- Introduction to the course
- Introduction to Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) actions
In-Person Learning, 7 hours (morning and afternoon)
- Practice applying MHFA actions to situations of declining mental well-being
- Guidelines for respectful communication
- Practice using MHFA actions in crisis situations
- MHFA actions for self-care
Mental Health First Aid is facilitated by skilled, supportive trainers who are available and present for participant safety and comfort. All participants will receive a learning booklet, resources and a Certificate of Completion.
