Welcome to life as a graduate student! We encourage incoming graduate students to participate in orientation sessions in August, September and January to learn about strategies for success in grad school, hear about grad specific resources and connect with other incoming graduate students.
Topics may include:

Talking to New People workshop
August 26, 10 – 11:30 a.m. (Main Activity Hall, Mutli-Faith Centre)
Talking and connecting with new people is a challenge that everyone faces (even for graduate students) and we created this workshop to help you develop the skills you need to not only make new connections, but to manage the fear and anxiety that comes along with it. In this workshop, we will teach you how to make new connections during your graduate programs and you will practice these skills so that you’ll leave with experience, and confidence that will help you continue talking to new people. Grad Connect Social is an exciting way to meet other incoming grad students. We will cycle students through breakout rooms so that they can meet new people and make new connections. Not only will this event be a fun and low-pressure way to get to know Grad students across disciplines, but it will help you to develop your networking and conversation skills. August 28, 5 – 6:30 p.m.
Join this session to help you transition to being a graduate student. Learn effective strategies for academic success, hear about grad life supports and programs available and learn how to get involved in campus activities and how to find community to have a better graduate experience. Facilitated by Jennifer Pinker, Student Life Coordinator, Graduate Programs and Andrea Graham, Learning Strategist, Graduate and Professional Programs, in partnership with Centre for Learning Support Strategy. This session will not be recorded.Qualifies for Grad Orientation CCR credit.
Gradlife: Campus Programs and Resources Fair
September 9, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. (Great Hall, Hart House)
Incoming graduate students will be introduced to key resources, programs and services designed for graduate students both within the Division of Student Life and outside the division at the University of Toronto. Attendees will be encouraged to visit different tables, learn and ask questions and engage with staff.Gradlife Orientation: Outdoor Boardgames Social
September 19, 3 – 5 p.m. (CIE Lawn, 33 St George St)
Join us for an in person outdoor social to connect with other incoming grad students from across departments and play some fun board games. Staff from Gradlife and the Centre for Learning Strategy Support will be available to answer questions regarding supports available. Pizza will be offered. Facilitated by Jennifer Pinker, Student Life Coordinator, Graduate Programs and Outreach and Andrea Graham, Learning Strategist, Graduate and Professional Programs.
