You will leave the session with practical tools and strategies to take action on your career goals.

Navigate Your Career in Academia: An Overview of the Academic Job Search
This workshop is aimed at PhD students and postdoctoral fellows interested in pursuing careers as university faculty. The session will provide a general overview of the academic job search process, including types of positions, hiring timelines, and components of the academic dossier. You will gain a better understanding of what to expect when applying for academic positions and will leave with resources to support you as you prepare your application documents.

Identifying Transferrable Skills for Career Development
In this in-person interactive workshop for graduate students, participants will learn how to reframe their specialized skills into transferrable skills that apply to non-academic career settings. Participants will be able to identify the transferrable skills acquired through their graduate experiences using reflection and a skills list. They will also express several of their transferrable skills using accomplishment-based statements that can be adapted for a resume or cover letter. This session is presented by Career Exploration & Education and the Teaching Assistants’ Training Program (TATP).

Cultivate Your Career Community of Support in Academia & Beyond
This session for master’s and PhD students and postdoctoral fellows is a space to explore cultivating a community of support for both academic and non-academic careers. If you have found concepts like networking tricky or complicated or are not sure how to build a career community of support, this is the session for you.
Whether you are interested in pursuing a career in academia or seeking non-academic opportunities after completing your graduate studies, the people around you will be important to your career and you will be important in theirs. In this session, we will discuss:
- Ways to build connections with peers, your supervisor, committee members, and other staff and faculty you may interact with.
- How to talk to people at conferences.
- Cultivating peer connections for support now and in the future.
- Acknowledging competitive environments that can make it difficult to share and connect with others.
- Supporting and advocating for others in your career community.

Work on Your Career: Co-working and Accountability Space
Join our small co-working group sessions for master’s and PhD students and postdocs designed to help you focus on career-related activities in a supportive environment. A co-working group is a shared online environment where individuals work alongside each other while benefiting from the presence and energy of others. Whether you’re just starting to explore career options or actively applying for jobs, this is a great time to set aside to make progress on your career goals.
