In this session for master’s and PhD students and postdocs, you will learn how to apply your research skills to explore career options and all aspects of the job search process from networking to creating job application materials and interviewing. You will leave the session with practical tools and strategies to take action on your career goals.

Navigate Your Career in Academia: An Overview of the Academic Job Search
This workshop is aimed at PhD students and postdoctoral fellows interested in pursuing careers as university faculty. The session will provide a general overview of the academic job search process, including types of positions, hiring timelines, and components of the academic dossier. You will gain a better understanding of what to expect when applying for academic positions and will leave with resources to support you as you prepare your application documents.

In this in-person interactive workshop for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, participants will learn how to identify transferrable skills that apply to non-academic career settings. You will also have the opportunity to practice communicating these skills in relation to the job search process.

Cultivate Your Career Community of Support in Academia & Beyond
This session for master’s and PhD students and postdoctoral fellows is a space to explore cultivating a community of support for both academic and non-academic careers. If you have found concepts like networking tricky or complicated or are not sure how to build a career community of support, this is the session for you.
Whether you are interested in pursuing a career in academia or seeking non-academic opportunities after completing your graduate studies, the people around you will be important to your career and you will be important in theirs. In this session, we will discuss:
- Ways to build connections with peers, your supervisor, committee members, and other staff and faculty you may interact with.
- How to talk to people at conferences.
- Cultivating peer connections for support now and in the future.
- Acknowledging competitive environments that can make it difficult to share and connect with others.
- Supporting and advocating for others in your career community.

Join our small co-working group sessions for master’s and PhD students and postdocs designed to help you focus on career-related activities in a supportive environment. A co-working group is a shared online environment where individuals work alongside each other while benefiting from the presence and energy of others.
