Health & Wellness is committed to supporting the mental health needs of BIPOC students.
The mental health clinic offers counselling services tailored to students who self-identify as Black, Indigenous and Persons of Colour. These services strive to provide a safe and collaborative space that offers BIPOC students all the supports of a same-day counselling appointment, and can also provide support for healing from stress related to discrimination ranging from microaggressions to overt racist behaviours and acts.

Michael Adia is a registered social worker and psychotherapist in Ontario. He has supported racialized communities in the Greater Toronto Area through his work at Asian Community AIDS Services as an outreach worker and program coordinator for East and Southeast Asian gay, bi, and MSM (men having sex with men). He has also worked as a social work team lead, case manager at Across Boundaries, a racialized mental health center supporting youth and adults experiencing concurrent disorders. His most recent work was with St. Michael Hospital’s Academic Family Health Team providing psychosocial support for marginalized and low-income individuals and families with focus on people living with HIV, racialized communities, and those who identify as 2SLGBTQIA. Michael holds an Honours BA in Health and Society from York University and a Master of Social Work Degree from Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto.
Change Kwesele Malama completed her PhD in Social Work and Developmental Psychology at the University of Michigan. As a child of the African diaspora, Change enjoys working with young people, international, immigrant populations in North America and Sub-Saharan Africa. She understands the joys and challenges of living across different contexts. As a mental health practitioner, she strives to make each person feel at ease and comfortable in counseling sessions. She works with individuals to develop coping skills that allow them to live their best lives.
Hours of service
- Monday to Friday: 8:45 a.m. – 5 p.m.
- Evening sessions are available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
