Clubs Essential Training (formerly ULead) is a leadership program that connects student leaders to each other and builds knowledge about how to operate campus groups.
Clubs Essential Training activities include:
- Clubs Essential Training Workshops (fall and winter)
- Presidents’ Retreat (annual)
- Clubs Essential Training Conference (full day)
- Clubs Essential Training in the Summer
- Club Cafés
Participating in the Clubs Essential Training Program is a great way to develop your personal leadership skills and enhance the capacity of your club! Individuals can qualify for the CCR-recognized certificate and clubs can collect points to be eligible to apply for office space at the 21 Sussex Avenue clubhouse.

Program Eligibility
Clubs Essential Training is for student leaders of U of T recognized campus groups on the St. George campus. This includes student societies, course unions and affiliate organizations. University of Toronto Mississauga and University of Toronto Scarborough groups are welcome to attend events, but the focus is on St. George campus.

How The Program Works
Student leaders attend a series of leadership activities over the academic year including:
- the annual Presidents’ Retreat
- the full-day Clubs Essential Training conference
- summer Clubs Essential Training workshops
- fall/winter workshops, and
- Clubs Essential Training Cafés
To receive a Clubs Essential Training certificate, individuals are required to earn 5 points across three leadership categories:
- 1 point from Organizational Development and Membership Engagement
- 1 point from Executive Role Development
- 1 point from Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
- 2 points from any category of your choosing
To be eligible for 21 Sussex office space, groups are required to earn 5 points across three leadership categories:
- 1 point from Organizational Development and Membership Engagement
- 1 point from Executive Role Development
- 1 point from Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
- 2 points from any category of your choosing
Important note: We will honour clubhouse office space awarded to groups from the 2019-2020 academic year. Clubs Essential Training points for the 2020-21 year will count for groups looking to secure clubhouse space for the 2021-2022 academic year. This may result in limited spaces available for clubs looking to apply for clubhouse space for the 2021-2022 year. Groups are strongly encouraged to send different executives and members to workshops that interest them or apply to their role.
