Twice a year (fall-winter and summer), the Work Study program offers paid, on-campus positions that provide you with an opportunity to deepen your knowledge, strengthen your skills and explore how your academic studies translate to career possibilities.
All Work Study positions are Co-Curricular Record (CCR) recognized.

Work Study streams
- The Work Experience Stream supports students in developing and articulating workplace skills, competencies, experience and knowledge. These positions are supervised by staff, faculty or librarians. They include opportunities to explore and reflect on how academic studies connect to workplace competencies and how the Work Study experience translates to career possibilities.
- The Research Experience Stream supports students in locating and participating in faculty-led research opportunities. These positions provide the opportunity to undertake or support a research project under the direction of a faculty member and involve the application of foundational methodologies and/or theories within a research field. They also include opportunities to explore and reflect on how academic studies connect to workplace competencies and how the Work Study experience translates to career possibilities. Research Experience Stream roles will vary in their required qualifications but seek to provide research opportunities for students with various levels of experience in research, including entry-level.

Program Eligibility
To participate in the Work Study program, you must satisfy the following requirements:
- Be a University of Toronto student
- Graduate students must be registered as defined by their college / faculty in order to be eligible.
- Students are permitted to accept only ONE Work Study position per program period.
- International students are subject to additional eligibility criteria and are strongly encouraged to refer to the Centre for International Experience to confirm they meet all of the Government of Canada regulations regarding on-campus work.
The following are ineligible for Work Study:
- Non-degree seeking students
- Students doing a placement (e.g., co-op work term)
- Students registered in the Toronto School of Theology
To be considered for a Work Study position, students must meet the Work Study sessional course load requirements (see below) at the time of application.
Summer 2024 course load:
- Undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least 0.5 FCE (full course equivalent).
- Graduate students must be registered for the summer session.
- Note: Reduced course loads are not offered for the summer cycle as it is already at the lowest course registration possible.

How The Program Works
The program is offered twice a year (fall/winter and spring/summer) with specific application and hiring dates.
Summer 2024
- Application period: April 2 – May 12, 2024 (Note: Application due dates will vary by position. Apply early!)
- Program period (Employment start and end dates): May 6 – August 16, 2024
Work Study supervisors are expected to support their Work Study students to:
- Establish learning goals through 1:1s or team meetings and a plan to achieve them.
- Supervisors and students have a mid-program check-in and final meeting where they review learning goals, provide feedback and acknowledge accomplishments.
- Complete the final Experiential Learning eModule: Reflecting on your Competency Development and discuss reflections with supervisor.

Considerations & Exceptions
Students do not have to be OSAP eligible to participate in the Work Study program.
For staff and faculty who are posting remote Work Study positions, please keep in mind that you can ask students to have a computer, Internet access, a webcam, and/or a phone in order to complete their work (at most).
