How The Program Works

All of the sessions listed below have recordings available to members of the U of T community. If you want to register for an upcoming Question and Answer (Q&A) session, please ensure that you view the recording(s) prior to the scheduled session. Registration is required.

Program Registration
Immigration Orientation
As an international student in Canada, you must maintain your legal status and follow Canadian immigration law and regulations. This session will help you learn about your responsibilities as an international student and how to maintain your immigration status in Canada.

How to Apply for a Study Permit Outside Canada
The University recommends that international students apply for their study permit as soon as they get their acceptance letter. This session will help you learn about the eligibility criteria and the application process for applying for a study permit outside Canada.

Working in Canada
As an international student, you may be eligible to work on- and off-campus while studying. You may also be eligible to work in Canada after graduation. Some international students may be eligible for a co-op work permit if they are enrolled in a degree that has an internship, co-op or placement requirement.

If you’re an international student who is interested in staying in Canada to work after graduation, you may be eligible for a work permit valid for up to three years.
