Although recent international experiences have been virtual due to COVID-related restrictions, in-person exchanges and experiences are scheduled to resume in January of 2022. Students can now apply for in-person exchanges that will begin in summer 2022. The Centre for International Experience (CIE) invites all U of T students—undergrads and graduate students, all campuses, international and domestic, to explore exchange opportunities on the Learning Abroad website.

Elina Tulla, CIE spokesperson, says there are experiences abroad available for everyone, and participating in them can enhance professional, academic and career prospects. Experiences abroad can be course-based, research-based or more like an internship, with experiential elements. She notes that the CIE will work with Accessibility Services to ensure appropriate accommodations with partner institutions as needed for students requesting them. “Every student at U of T can go,” she says.

Students are encouraged to explore the different options available, and apply before deadlines (starting with December 6 for summer experiences and selected fall/full year exchanges), including their 3-5 top choices. It can be competitive to find a spot for some destinations, so she encourages flexibility, and thinking realistically about several options that might be most interesting to each applicant.

Application forms are live on the Learning Abroad website and registrations can be completed any time up until the specific deadline for each program. Then all applications for that deadline are reviewed at once. Learn about all the opportunities available, then step out into the world of options available through U of T!
