CIE Orientation includes many events to help you transition to U of T, including informative and engaging activities, campus and neighbourhood tours, events to meet and interact with other students, a Services Expo, and the CIE Welcome Reception.

Registration is not necessary unless noted. Simply come by and participate in any of the events relevant to you.

All events will take place at CIE (33 St. George St.) unless otherwise noted. Map to the CIE (Cumberland House)

August 28 to 31 is time to Step Up!

Will you be a first-year international student at U of T in September 2017?  Did you do your secondary level education outside of Canada?  If so, then Step Up might be for you!
Step Up is an immersive transition program which will assist you in your process of orienting to a new social and academic environment. Meet the professors, fellow new and upper-year students, and staff members who will be a part of your U of T experience over the next few years. Learn how to navigate and take advantage of the many opportunities to enrich your U of T experience.

This year Step Up will run from Monday August 28 - Thursday August 31 inclusive, with optional volunteer-led social activities on Friday September 1.

August 31, 2017 is Grad Step Up!

Starting graduate school in a new country and in a new university system can be a lot to navigate. Grad Step Up is a full-day event designed to help bridge this transition. At Grad Step Up you will have a chance to take part in sessions designed to help you become familiar with the expectations and resources available to you at U of T. You will also have a chance to meet other international graduate students from many different departments at U of T.

Monday, September 4 is a Canadian holiday, but CIE will be open 12 noon to 5 p.m.

Labour Day is an annual Canadian holiday that celebrates the achievements of workers. Most of the University is closed on Labour Day. This is the last long weekend of the summer.

CIE will be open from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

September 5 - 8 (Tuesday to Friday) - Orientation Programming

Tues. Sept. 5 (One Day Only) (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.):  visit and explore the Services Expo for international, exchange and visiting students. Get all the info you need in one place! Connect with a variety of service providers to get information about phone plans, banking, food options, Toronto attractions and more!  More details about the Services Expo

Sept. 5 – 8 (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.):  the CIE Welcome Café is open to international students to drop in for refreshments, and to meet other new students as well as upper year students.  Come by and say “hi,” gather information you might need, and print off your UHIP card.

Sept. 5 – 8 (2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.):  Campus services tours will be organized to show you resources on campus. Each tour begins at CIE and will take you to various campus locations. Examples of sites and campus resources (depending on tour group/day) include: Academic Success, Career Exploration & Education, Housing, Multi-Faith Centre, Centre for Community Partnerships, First Nations House, Hart House, Athletic Centre, Health & Wellness Centre, and Accessibility Services. Sept. 5 – 8 (evenings, starting 5 p.m.):  CIE will organize neighbourhood walking tours to introduce you to local areas near the St. George campus. Each walking tour (90 minutes to 2 hours) will be to a different neighbourhood area. Tours begin at CIE and then proceed off site to locations (each tour will end off site).  More details about neighbourhood walking tours.

CIE International Welcome Reception

Welcome to Canada, Toronto and U of T!  If you are a new international or exchange/VISP student, this is an event that you won’t want to miss! Drop by for a free lunch, music, some activities and to meet new friends.
