Foundational Trainings

Mentorship Foundations Training covers training topics that are common to peer mentors across the University of Toronto, St. George campus. For questions about topics specific to your individual mentorship program please contact the Coordinator of the mentorship program you are working with.

Any student who is or wishes to be a peer mentor is invited to participate in training.  To complete training students need to complete each of the following 90 minute sessions in order:

  • Mentorship 101
  • Creating an Inclusive Environment
  • Mentoring Conversations

Mentorship Foundations training sessions do not count toward the Mentor Leadership Certificate.  Upon completion of the 4.5 hours of Mentorship Foundation training you will receive Co-Curricular Record (CCR) validation.

Coordinators of the program will receive a list of all students who have completed training.  Many Peer Mentorship programs require training to validate the Peer Mentor role on the CCR.

Peer Mentor Facilitators

Are you looking for a leadership development opportunity to improve your presentation and facilitation skills? We are looking for Peer Mentor Facilitators for 2019-2020.

This is a volunteer opportunity for current students who previously served (for at least one academic year) as Peer Mentors at U of T and attended Mentorship Foundations (or equivalent). A completed Mentor Leadership Certificate is an asset. With assistance, Peer Mentor Facilitators will work in pairs to schedule, plan and co-facilitate one Mentor Café per month. Peer Mentor Facilitators will also co-facilitate (with a staff member) at least one Mentorship Foundations Training Workshop. Successful candidates must be available for one day of training on Friday, September 20, 2019 and one day of program evaluation in March (will be decided according to Mentor Café schedule), attend group meetings in October, November, January, February and March, and complete a reflection activity to be eligible for CCR validation.

Peer Mentor Facilitator applications are now open!

For more information, contact mentorship@utoronto.ca
