Student Life Programs And Services - St. George Campus

Sustainability Leadership Program

The Sustainability Leadership program was conceived when U of T students and staff involved in environmental activism identified a need to tangibly develop the skills of leaders within the movement. From this original idea, a dedicated group has been designing a curriculum that will help to build skills while bringing together people from within the movement for networking opportunities.

To be involved in this program for the 2011-2012 year, please email Kate Bowers, Student Life Coordinator, Leadership Programs at kate.bowers@utoronto.ca.

Looking Ahead: Planning for Transition

Workshop Description:
We've had a great year in campus sustainability work and now it's important to make sure that all of our time and enthusiasm gets carried on into next year. It's pretty safe to say that campus groups are characterized by high rates of turnover, but this doesn't have to mean that you lose momentum every year. These workshops are designed to help you deal with changing executives and seeks to set up your organization for long-term success. We'll be discussing these topics in relation to the ecocycle of organizations, and providing a set of tangible skills to help guide your process of transition.

Activist Burnout and Systems Thinking

With speakers Angela Bischoff and Professor Steve Easterbook
Friday, February 11th 2011 from 1:00 - 5:00 pm
Cumberland Room, Cumberland House, 33 St. George Street

Workshop Descriptions:
Activist Burnout: Even the most dedicated activist can get the blues. But an activist culture that emphasizes passion and unwavering commitment can be alienating to those members who have lost some of that initial spark. This workshop aims to break down the stigma surrounding activist burnout and admit that it really does happen to almost everyone. From that place of acceptance and understanding, it will offer some constructive solutions for how to get back from the brink of burnout, and also how to prevent it in yourself and members of your team

Systems Thinking: Silos, they really are a plague we love to discuss, but getting out of one can be a bit tough. This workshop will identify strategies for overcoming the constraints of the world to think in truly sustainable terms. Climbing gear not included.
